3.1.1 Getting Started

Walktest is probably the first program to run once you have compiled Crystal Space. It takes a set of command line options, and the name of a map to open. By default, it will open the ‘/lev/castle’ directory.

If this is the first time running Walktest (or any Crystal Space application), you will need to recalculate the lightmaps for the level. The option ‘-relight’ does this. Also use this if you modify a map such that its geometry has changed.

The other most useful options are ‘-help’ to list available options, and ‘-video=software’ or ‘-video=opengl’ to change the renderer used.

Once Walktest is running, you can move about the world using the mouse and arrow keys, similar to many First Person Shooter games. The movement commands are detailed later. See section Special Keys.
