Hello,

  it's quite hard to tell how hard it is to learn CS & CEL, that's not really measurable,
and depends on a lot of factors, some of them depending on you wink
For tutorials, the manual is a good starting point (see CS/apps/tutorial/ too).
There's also a script (CS/scripts/jamtemplate/createproject.sh) which helps
a lot at quickstarting an app using CS (and possibly CEL).
Then, the API manual with its list of interfaces also is of great value,
even just to check what's available.

Sadly, the error is not shown in the compile output you pasted.
You'd have to add some switch to the make command so it stops on first error.
Anyway, you're missing quite a few important dependencies. You have to install -devel packages for some libs, like
  • zlib
  • OpenGL
  • libjpeg
  • libogg
  • Alsa (asound)
  • ... and probably other optional ones
At the very least, install zlib-devel (or whatever development package is named),
and OpenGL headers (might be Mesa, depending on your card/driver).

Also take a look in the CS directory, you should find an executable named jam.
Copy it somewhere like $HOME/bin/ or /usr/local/bin/ so that it's in your $PATH,
and use "jam" instead of "make".
As a warning, don't install CS unless you absolutely need/want that
(there's no uninstall target, and is really only useful for packagers).
Using CS from it's build directory is sufficient for most cases.

I think CS 1.2.1 supports Cg 1.4/1.5, but was not ready for Cg 2.0+.
Try either using CS 1.4, which should support Cg 2.0+,
or install Cg 1.5 in another directory and rebuild CS to use this version instead.
If you have one, also delete $HOME/.crystalspace/shadercache/ directory after the switch.

Hi,

  can you tell us which Cg version do you have ?
Also, giving output from runnin your app with "-verbose=-scf" parameter
with and without Cg plugin available might help.
Another thing to try, check with CS/CEL 1.4.0rc2 smiley

It would be better if you posted the actual errors you get...
Now, please try using at least CS 1.4.0rc2 instead of 1.2.1.

  do you use Nvidia binary/proprietary driver ? is it up-to-date ?
Other things to try:
  • delete $HOME/.crystalspace/shadercache/ directory

Nope, for pure-CS (not using CEL) projects, there's no alternative to CEGUI,
not counting old AWS and AWS2 which are not maintained anymore
(but one can find them in CSExtra repository).
You could write your own with CS-only code, using csPixmap, for example.

CEL projects, like Crystal Core, generally use the "billboard" propclass.
And, there's the python-widget set in $CEL/data/library/blpython/widgets/
which Interstate Outlaws uses. There are now examples for it yet, apart studying
Interstate Outlaws or Ecksdee code.
And it's somehow broken with trunk/1.9 at the moment (but works with 1.4 & 1.2.1).

mmm, that looks very strange and unusual.
Can you give more informations about which CS version/revision you're trying to build ?
And are you trying to build using CodeBlock's MinGW or a vanilla MinGW/MSYS install ?
Cygwin is not much used these days for CS it seems, you'd better go for MinGW/MSYS.

  don't bother installing CS, especially if you're a programmer.
Since there's no uninstall program/target, it can be tricky at times, when you're dealing with multiple builds.
Install is really only useful for packagers...

For the failed target, it would help if you actually told us what fails exactly.

For the deprecated warnings, they just help people keeping their app up-to-date with next CS version,
encouraging them to use the "new way" of doing things (ie. use this method instead of that one).
Generally, there are instruction in the manual's release notes appendix about how to do this.

I think I have the same computer, Intel Mac OS 10.4 with ATI Radeon 1600X. Is not there a Crystal Space compiled version that I could download, so that I don´t have to compile it? I don´t understand why every user have to compile...

For the records:
  • starting with CS 1.4, there's much better support for Universal binaries build
  • generally, there are no binaries of CS itself because
    • CS is a software development kit, so its users should be able to compile it
    • releasing binaries would take much developer and testing time, so it's not a priority

Now, if one still has problems with Intel Mac support, please open a new thread wink

I think the guide you're reading is the one about building a CS based application, not for CS itself.
That is, to be done after CS was built successfuly.
Some may have succedeed building CS itself with CB, but I have no idea how exactly.

(give a link for the log like you did for PS, if need be).
Until we get that information, we can't really help...
