1  Crystal Space Projects / Project Discussion / Announcing Project: "Extinct" on: December 04, 2005, 08:58:58 pm
well yeah, there is a reason why i try to get familiar with crystal space.

im planning a new game to advance my programming skills, 3d modeling, texturing, network etc.
I will do this on my project "extinct".

i guess i will never finish this game. but its great for me to go independent and learn much.

about extinct:

  • online multiplayer
  • 7 playable races
  • a big universe to explore
  • you play one character, which you can level up und craft new gear
  • important: PVP System

you can find the project page at:
its all written in german, english site will come soon

2  Crystal Space Development / Support / Custom Cursor and Menu on: December 04, 2005, 01:59:31 am
hey all.

im quite new and my skills are very low.

Your source files lack of documentation, so its really impossible for me to figure out how i could solve my problems.
well, i tried the whole day now to do a simple thing:

- 3d scene in background (like the simpmap tutorial)
- custom mouse cursor
- a small menu to interact with the programm (must not provide any functionality at this time)

compiling the simp map and displaying my own world is no problem for me, but the rest Sad

maybe anyone could provide me a solution for this, best way would be if you take the source code from simpmap-tutorial and add
this two things. I guess jorrit or sunshine could do this in  minutes ^^

hmm, i successfully compiled CS a few days ago for the first time.

Use MingW. I had no problems. Only downloading all the correct files was a bit annoying.

i had many many problems!!!

but im more a person that is "learning by doing" and not "learning by reading all about it and understanding" Smiley

nah its great, i guess real questions will arise soon. But first i will get more conform with all CS classes and plugins etc. Source code is untouched at the moment Smiley

and i hope some planeshift members are also activ in this forums. Cause i have many questions about network coding, databases etc. All what you need to save player informations on a server.

hello all!

if you look at my post count you will notify that im new to this forum (yeh, its the first post Tongue)
i have to say i really like crystal space.

i unterstand the C++ syntax and 3ds max basics, this fits wonderful!
After one week of reading tutorials, compiling, testing etc. i finally was able 5 minutes ago to load my first own mesh in walktest and im really happy!!!

so finally i was successful without annoying the forum members here with questions a complete newbie would ask before reading all the tutorials!
man it's so great. Maybe some of you remembers when he/she was able to load the first time a self made mesh in crystal space (with lightning!! Tongue)

your community has a new member -> me

thx for this great engine and the well written tutorials.
