1  Associate Projects / CEL Discussion / Making use of CEL on: December 06, 2007, 11:42:46 am
I was directed to CEL to use for an RTS I want to get up off the ground.  I had previously installed the Crystal Space renderer, and messed around a bit with the demo apps (also installed the libraries, assuming I did it right).  I was wondering, once I've downloaded CEL, what do I do with it next?  That is, do I leave it in it's own folder in my C drive, or does it get added in with the renderer?

I am annoncing a new project I have been wanting to start for some time.

It is an RTS, with elements similar to a card game.

I am in need of staff.  I am a programming student, so I would like another, more experienced coder to assist, a 3d modeler, and a skinner.

If anyone is seriously interested, PM me and I will get us together for a chat on what the bigger project is about.

I wanted to recruit local people but had no luck.

A microphone is a plus.

Thanks for sorting it out.  I thought it sounded odd when I checked the main site and realized it has very little about CrystalCore.

Without CEL, what does Crystal Core do?  It it purely a renderer?  I thought it had other associated libraries that handled non-graphical things.

I started asking about CrystalSpace 3d over at, and someone said that it's a great renderer, but only with CrystalCore does it become a true 'engine' for me to use.  I'm intending to make an RTS in the future using your engine, and was wondering how I make use of CrystalCore?  I downloaded the CrystalSpace into, compiled the walking demo, and have read into some of the manual.  Is CC another package I need to download, or what?

It's a simple question but this would be the first time I would be making a group from scratch.

I'm a good leader, and a programming student.  (Comp. Sci. major, changing to Comp. Prog.)  I, therefor, have skills of my own that I can "bring to the table", and am not the proverbial "idea guy", who just makes work for others to do.  I cannot, however, expect myself to be the teams only programmer, nor can I model to any high degree, nor have I tried skinning or rigging.  Naturally, I need help.  But how do I ask for it?  How much of my project info do I give up?  I've been refining the concept for a while now and do not desire it to be 'snatched up' by a more veteran team, leaving me int the dust.

I am new to Crystal Space and have yet to get through all of the documents.  I did read the sticky in this group about the pitfalls of game design, etc.  I was considering getting a few local guys that share my / have a similar major, though the few I already know I highly doubt would make good, dedicated team members. 

I'm asking because I'm unsure if there is a lot of "open" members, people without a project but a drive to assist others with theirs.  Because this is a specialized community I figured this forum would be more likely to harbor a bunch of projects, and a high number of people tied up in projects in relation to number of people not involved with anything, yet having the skills to contribute.

Any assistance would be great.

Actually, I've come here to use and learn about CS with the sole intention on making an RTS.  It's a large project and I was hoping to gather another coder (can't do it all myself) and other positions (modeler, skinner, etc) here.

The RTS genre has IMO become sort of stagnant and I've been slowly refining my concept over the last few years to be something I hope "gets out there".
