Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I am developing an application where not all the program logic will be real-time. I'd like to generate movements for my meshes using an A* search, start moving and while the render loop is running to show the movements, start another A* search for the next set of movements. I think the right approach is to start a new thread for the A* search so the render loop and search can operate at the same time (or at least share the processor).

First of all, is my approach the correct one or is there something easier I'm not considering? I've found some references to thread classes in the online API but is there any tutorial or sample code I could view? Can someone give me a brief overview of the classes I need to use to start this new thread?
