I'm trying to figure out crystal space to use on a research project, but so far I haven't been able to get walktest to run...below are the errors I am currently getting.  I'm pretty sure I have all the right dependencies, any ideas?

WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.kernel.vfs'
 * This likely means that the plugins could not be found.
If you're a user: Check the working directory the application starts from -
usually, it is the same as the directory with the executable.
If in doubt, contact the vendor.
If you're a developer: Check if the CRYSTAL environment var points to the
correct location - usually the directory CS was built in.
You can also use the '--verbose' command line switch to troubleshoot
  where CS looks for plugins.
ERROR: Failed to initialize config!
(A common cause is the CRYSTAL environment variable not being set correctly.)
Error initializing system!
Cleaning up...
Error saving configuration '/config/walktest.cfg'.

Well, what value _does_ CRYSTAL have?
What platform are you on?
Do you try to run CS out of the build directory or did you install it?

I think I figured out the vfs problem; I re-installed it and was careful to make sure everything ended up in the right places, but now I'm getting another error:

SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl
if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG
WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl'
WARNING: failed to initialize plugin 'crystalspace.console.output.standard'
DEBUG: Sound System Software Renderer Initializing...
No 3D driver!

  World saving enabled.
crystalspace.system:  No iGraphics3D plugin!
crystalspace.system:  Error initializing system!

After looking through other posts I'm still unsure how to fix this.  I have and which some people mentioned might be the problem if they are missing, but they aren't.  I thought I had all the dependencies I needed but I'm thinking that might not be the case since it's not working.  Any ideas of what I might be missing?

This is indeed probably a problem with some needed dependencies. Have you installed the drivers of your graphic card? Have you Cg?
You can also look in your 'config.log' file and search for 'opengl' and 'cg' to see if there was a problem.
