hey everybody,

I compiled CS succesfully and want to start walktest. I get the output:

WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.kernel.vfs'
 * This likely means that the plugins could not be found.
If you're a user: Check the working directory the application starts from -
usually, it is the same as the directory with the executable.
If in doubt, contact the vendor.
If you're a developer: Check if the CRYSTAL environment var points to the
correct location - usually the directory CS was built in.
You can also use the '--verbose' command line switch to troubleshoot
  where CS looks for plugins.
ERROR: Failed to initialize config!
(A common cause is the CRYSTAL environment variable not being set correctly.)
Error initializing system!
Cleaning up...
Error saving configuration '/config/walktest.cfg'.

Maybe this looks familiar to you. I do have set the CRYSTAL environment variable to the crystalspace source directory, where I compiled it. So when I execute walktest --verbose it goes:

SCF_NOTIFY: scanning plugin directory: /usr/local/bin (context `app'; recursive no)
SCF_NOTIFY: scanning plugin directory: /home/martin/studium/Interact/csCoding/vr/crystalspace-src-1.2 (context `{none}'; recursive no)

SCF_NOTIFY: registering class crystalspace.mesh.loader.haze in context `crystalspace' (from /usr/local/lib/crystalspace-1.2/hazeldr.so)
...[here lots of more similar messages]...
and in the end the same error message like above.

I use ubuntu 7.10.

thanks for any help!

Did you install CS dependencies before compiling Crystal Space?

I did not have the gl3d.so file in my directory and so I copied it from another installation but I guess that doesn't help.
I did install all necessary CS dependencies before compiling CS.

Now I got the openGl running and good framerates for glxgears, but stillt this errors when I try to start walktest.
Code:
WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl'
WARNING: failed to initialize plugin 'crystalspace.console.output.standard'
DEBUG: Sound System Software Renderer Initializing...
WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.sndsys.element.ogg'
No 3D driver!
crystalspace.system:  No iGraphics3D plugin!
crystalspace.system:  Error initializing system!
Cleaning up...

Has Anybody any idea ? Do you need any more information about my system?
thanks

"I did not have the gl3d.so file in my directory and so I copied it from another installation"

Hmm. Strange. How many times compiled CS? Try a clean compile and follow the building instructions in the manual.

Most likely, you're missing some dependencies.
Missing VFS is generally due to not having zlib development package/headers installed. Missing gl3d would be due to missing OpenGL development/headers, etc.
Please carefully check configure's output, install missing dependencies, then re-run configure and re-run jam.
